When our skilled team at Health House is developing a new product, I am given samples to trial, as I like to feel confident that new products work well for the majority of our customers.
Our latest new product is a soluble powder called ‘Premium Collagen’ (a peptide). Peptides are small proteins that our liver manufactures and uses to make collagen, especially during our younger years. We make much less collagen peptides as we age.
These small collagen proteins provide the raw material to slow down our aging process. They help maintain the plumpness of our skin and minimise wrinkles. Collagen peptides also produce more luxuriant hair and help maintain or rebuild muscle mass. Our body is made up of 30% collagen and our skin 75% collagen.
Our Premium Collagen peptide powder's trade name is ‘Peptan’ and has been developed in France by Rousselot, the world’s leading collagen research and production company. Peptan’s health benefits are backed by substantial scientific evidence.
Fruit Antioxidant
The other product I trialed at the same time is our Fruit Antioxidant. This new capsule product was introduced in our latest May catalogue. It’s a highly concentrated extract of healthy fruit antioxidants and flavonoids. These anti-aging nutrients promote a long, healthy life.
Each capsule of Fruit Antioxidant contains concentrated antioxidants. The equivalent of 85grams (1/3 cup) of flavonoids and carotenoids from New Zealand grown blackcurrents, boysenberries, kiwifruit and grapes. These nutrients are extracted from the skin, seeds and flesh of these four healthy fruits.
My trial of Premium Collagen and Fruit Antioxidant
So, for the past five days I have been substituting two tablespoons of whey protein which I normally take in my daily smoothie, with Premium Collagen. And taking one capsule of Fruit Antioxidant.
I was not expecting to notice much, or any difference, due to my lifestyle and healthy eating habits. However, after three days I began to notice a major change during my morning exercises.
I always start my morning exercise routine by doing 30 push-ups. I’ve been doing this for a number of years now and find the last 5 push-ups are a real effort – probably understandable as I turn 78 this year. But to my surprise, the last two mornings I’ve found my push-ups to be effortless, right up to 30, and felt I could easily continue. So, tomorrow morning, I am going to try for 50 push-ups.
Next morning
Well, good news, I did 50 push-ups this morning. I tried for 60, but 50 was all I could manage. I noticed that lifting heavy dumbbells during my workout, was also more effortless.
Following morning
Wow, I managed 60 push-ups today. Now, whether it’s the Premium Collagen or the concentrated Fruit Antioxidant that’s making the difference, I don’t know. It must be either one, or both, because nothing else in my life or diet has changed.
So, I’m going to stop the Fruit Antioxidant today and carry on with the Premium Collagen to see what happens.
Next two mornings
Back down to 50 push-ups yesterday, and only 40 today without taking the Fruit Antioxidant capsule. This was most unexpected. So, I’ll begin taking a ‘Fruit Antioxidant’ capsule again.
Following week
It’s definitely the Fruit Antioxidant capsule that’s making the difference. Who would have thought such a small amount would make such a difference? After just two days, I can again do 50 push-ups without difficulty, and 60 with effort. This has continued every morning since.
What about premium collagen?
This is not to say that the Premium Collagen doesn’t work. I’ve been adding regular whey protein and Mitchell’s Bone Broth Protein Powder to my daily smoothie for years now. Bone broth also contains collagen peptides.
The Whey Protein and the Bone Broth Protein Powder both contain protein. So I was just substituting one source of collagen and protein for another and the extra boost was from the Fruit Antioxidant.
Health House's new Premium Collagen has a similar effect to Bone Broth at a more competitive price.
My current supplement regime
So now my daily breakfast drink uses the Premium Collagen (instead of my regular whey protein), along with the Bone Broth Protein Powder, blended with milk and a raw egg into a smoothie.
Along with this, my morning supplements are the Fruit Antioxidant, Hemp Seed Oil and DHEA 7-Keto capsules.
My lunchtime supplements are CoQ10-Omega 3, Turmeric and Boron/Selenium. At night I take my CAA-Multi and Bone Health.
